Video: Academy Museum of Motion Pictures
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is a terrific exhibition that takes place on three floors at 6067 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036 and features rich cinema history.
I had the wonderful opportunity to take a look at the museum on October 16, 2022. Below you will find some of my favorite pieces from the museum.
If you are a cinephile, you are sure to appreciate the historical aspects of the museum. Featuring special effects props / costumes used in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (which happens to be my favorite movie of all time), Star Wars, and Shape of Water- I was completely floored at the rich details within these pieces. As an Animation teacher, I adored the beautiful animation exhibit which featured several drawings and molds of classic films, such as a layered scene from Pinnochio and a 3D model of the fairies from Sleeping Beauty.
The museum is priced fairly as follows…
Adult tickets - $19
Student Tickets - $15
Seniors - $12
Children under the age of 17 - Free.
Additionally, The Oscars Experience is an optional add-on that costs $15 a person. It’s extremely short but you are able to be recorded holding an Oscar in front of a projected audience as you receive this prestigious award. This is certainly something that could be very fun for you and another outgoing friend to have an experience worth remembering but it’s a steep price for something that doesn’t take too much time. I probably wouldn’t pay for this, unless you have some money to burn.
